The Truth About Guns publisher likes clean, uncluttered designs. We do too. So we were happy to design something for him that would suit his post-modern tastes. As luck would have it, once he saw the standard WordPress template, he fell in love with it. Since standardizing on it, we’ve been gradually updating the look and feel to get away from the generic look of it, while retaining the clarity of the basic design.

The inspiration for this logo comes from the peel and stick targets that provide a day-glo green highlight around each bullet hole, making it easier for shooters to see where they’ve hit. It seemed like a metaphor for The Truth About Guns, a blog that tries to provide facts, plain-spoken, unvarnished opinion, and commentary that highlights the truth, like a laser pointer.

When he’s not busy making the world safe for insanely great graphic design, Brad Kozak likes to write for a gun blog called The Truth About Guns. Every so often, he’s able to put his Photoshop talents to work, creating a parody. In this case, it’s a bogus catalog that you might expect to find going out to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. This was inspired by the ATF’s scandal du jour, Project Gunwalker. The Woman I Thought I Knew

This song is a poignant, haunting ballad, featuring a four-bar guitar figure that borders on an ostinato. It functions within the song both to set the mood, and to act almost as a leitmotif, sounding a discordant theme of despair throughout almost the entire piece. The only relief comes from a walking chord structure that serves to break the tension, only to return the listener once again to the constant theme, almost like a Möbius strip returning to it’s origin.

Love Honor & Cherish

What Can I Say?

There’s a story behind this song. A woman that Brad dated had a habit of saying “What can I say?” so often, it had ventured into the “verbal tic” realm. One day he said, “I’m going to stop you from saying that ever again.” She asked how. He told her he’d write a song, if she said it again. She did. So he did. And she never said it again.

As musician/bon-vivant/raconteur/political gadfly/writer/Texan Kinky Friedman says, “Politics…from the Latin, “poly” meaning “many,” and “tics,” a small, blood-sucking insect.” We hate politics. But we love our country. And when it’s time to go to the polls, we’ve found there are far too few on the right that are ready, willing and able to use humor, wit, and satire to make a (conservative) point. What you see here are desktops from the 2008 National election cycle. At the time, Hillary was not Secretary of State, but the Democrat front-runner and heir-apparent to the Clinton legacy. Who knew?

We are often called on to design a package after the product is in production. In this case, we were asked to collaborate on it from a very early stage. We participated in discussions ranging from retail pricing strategies to rollout plans. We also named the product, created the product logo, and conceived the product package design with the die-cut to show the actual product through the front of the box. By the way, our favorite name didn’t make the cut: Pocket Rocket.
